Sweska Says…

The Art of Play

i’m a bookworm!!!

9:17 pm23

ok! i confess i have indeed become a true bookworm – carrying a book in my bag every time! The counter reads 41 books currently and it kinda reminded me of another bookworm i used to admire – Belle, the Disney princess…

I remember she wanted to own a huge library… i wanted that too. But somehow, over these few months, i’m wondering if i even need a personal home library. I mean there’s great public library and eBooks on the net. And i know at least 10 adults who confessed that they spend on books but never read them! Personal home libraries takes up space and more importantly how many time will we actually read a book more than twice or thrice?

Isn’t it contradictory that i don’t wanna own a personal home library when i’m indeed finally a bookworm?? Oh well… at least i’m getting the hang of the true spirit of reading – enjoyment and a curiousity for a greater expanse of knowledge :P

bui bui blabbers

9:27 am15

Bui bui is sweska. That’s what i am called at home.

Bui bui came from the words that i first learnt to mumble from my mouth when i was really a baby. Since then, more than 2 decades have passed and well, i have forgotten to learn some thing new every other day.

Bui bui Blabbers is thus created and i’ll be posting up something new every day. Some thing that i have always loved, some thing that i never knew, some thing little and some thing that i want to know.

And on top on that i’m expanding my reading list. I’m gonna read a new book every 3 days :P Look out for it!

Life is short… i have decided that i’m not gonna sit and tell myself i dunno this and that. I need to know a lot more to drive myself along the path that i truly love. And that will be my destiny. Talking about destiny, I just got reminded about the beautiful urdu lines that dev told us. It’s written by Muhamed Iqbal

Khudi ko kar buland itna ke har taqdeer se pehle
Khuda bande se khud pooche, bataa teri razaa kya hai?

Raise yourself to such greater heights that before writing your fate
God asks you himself, tell me how should I write your destiny?

Google Earth adventures

4:37 pm9

Whooppie!! I’m exploring more and more stuff with Google Earth! If you have not downloaded the latest version 4 beta, please do because theres’s more than just history and geography. I’m simply taken away by the animation and 3D capibilities of this version. Take a look at some videos like the Eiffel Tower or this one as it flies you through NY, Grand Canyon and the Golden Gate Bridge…

But I think the greatest strength of Google Earth is in its sharing capability through the use of kml or kmz files with icons like this . I have been addicted to these ge files in communities like Earth Explorer or the GE Blog.

Now i found some really interesting ones – Lord of the Rings shooting sites, the Tour de France routesVancouver buildings in 3D, the Seven Wonders of the World, 3D models of Giza Pyramid or Eiffel Tower, a beautiful yearly time animation of the Earth’s look as seasons change, even a Planet Mars’ overlay landscape and plate techtonic shifting animation since 600 million years!!

…Oh! There are just too many of them. You have to really explore them all by yourself :D

Blog in your Language using Unicode

10:29 am23

Glee!! I finally figured out the Unicode stuff. It’s really cool how it can be used to insert loads of symbols and especially the alphabets of our mother tongue. Now, i know there are already freewares to write in Chinese or Tamil, but i couldn’t really find one for my language. But after reading the Unicode slogan, i had a feeling i can type it out using my existing platform and programs i have.

So briefly, here’s how you can blog in your own language in WordPress.

1. Open the Unicode chart of the language you want and I used my mother tongue’s unicode chart in this case.
2. Open a new document in MS Word.
3. Look for the Unicode of the alphabet you want to type.

4. Type in the Unicode in MS word.

5. Press Alt + X and Voila! You have the letter you want in MS word document.

6. Now select the text, Ctrl + A and copy, Ctrl + C the words.
7. Paste, Ctrl + V into WordPress New Post page.
8. Hit Publish and view Blog entry in your own language :D

It was tedious typing out every single Unicode and if you do not have any other software to write the symbols, this method can be used. But I guess usually we can get some kind of Unicode Editors out there and this is really too troublesome. Nonetheless, it was kind of exciting for me to type out my first sentence in mother tongue on the net…

?????? ???? ???? ?????

Hee… hope no spelling mistakes! Well, since none of you know this language I won’t get caught ;) I realised there’s some inconsistencies about the order of inserting the vowels in MS word and in WordPress and also how it looks in different browsers. But still it’s great! And somehow, after typing this out, a weird sense of loss came to my mind… I realised I am slower in writing it out and if I try anything slightly more difficult, I know the spelling will be way off.

It’s kind of sad, and i’m not really proud of it. The only language i used to know for the first 4 years of my life before knowing English – i’m loosing it slowly. The only remnant is my speaking and listening ability thanks to the fact that i still use it at home.
